BOOK SALES<\/p>\n
There will be no CFOL book sales on Labor Day weekend, September 1 and 2. \u00a0The September “First Friday” book sale for CFOL members only will take place Friday, September 8 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the library’s meeting room.<\/p>\n
Regular book sales open to the general public will resume on Saturday, September 9 from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. in the library’s meeting room. \u00a0Books are also available for sale in the library’s lobby whenever the library is open. \u00a0There are no better bargains for book lovers.<\/p>\n
CHANGE TO CHICO BRANCH LIBRARY HOURS<\/p>\n
Beginning Monday, September 4 the Chico branch will be closed on Mondays. \u00a0 Increasing costs for other Butte County services have caused reductions in the budgets of many County departments, including the library. \u00a0Despite the cut in hours, your Chico branch library will continue to provide the services patrons appreciate and depend on. \u00a0A new service, help with online Social Security services, takes place every third Wednesday from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. in the library.<\/p>\n
SUNDAY MOVIES<\/p>\n
On each\u00a0Sunday afternoon the Chico branch library will show family-friendly movies at 2:00 p.m. in the library’s meeting room. \u00a0These are free and open to the public. \u00a0 Your CFOL has provided the funding for a license for these showings. \u00a0Escape the summer heat with an\u00a0entertaining afternoon movie alongside friends, neighbors, and other library patrons on September \u00a03, 10, 17, and 24 courtesy of CFOL.<\/p>\n
These “dog days” of summer are a reminder that your Chico branch library is the perfect place to cool off with a good book, magazine, computer time or other activity. \u00a0See the Circulation or Reference desk for calendars of adults’ and young people’s activities.<\/p>\n
COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR CHICO LIBRARY<\/p>\n
Many thanks to Bacio Catering for their generous support of your CFOL and the Chico branch library. \u00a0CFOL was the beneficiary of their”pop-up” dinner on July 27 where $6000 was raised and donated to CFOL. \u00a0An additional $900 was gleaned from book sales held at the event.<\/p>\n
CULTURAL EXPOSITION COMING TO CHICO BRANCH<\/p>\n
Celebracion de las Americas, billed as a cultural exposition of Latin American countries, comes to the Chico branch library on Saturday, September 16 from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. \u00a0Drama, poetry, children’s activities, games, ethnic food, and live music from 16 countries are free and open to the public in this CFOL-sponsored event.<\/p>\n
CONSTRUCTION FOR “MAKER SPACE”\u00a0BEGINS SOON<\/p>\n
Your CFOL will make significant contributions to the new “Maker Space” to be built in the center of the library. \u00a0Devices such as\u00a03-D printers, a button maker, sewing machines, typewriters, and an Ellison die-cut machine will be available for public use. \u00a0There will also be space for\u00a0tutoring, book discussions, Fandom Club, computer lab and other programs. \u00a0Your CFOL\u00a0will purchase materials as well as storage cabinets and work surfaces, while Butte County will construct the surrounding walls. \u00a0Talk to library staff to share your ideas for additional devices and programs.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, come to the library for a demonstration of the Chico branch’s new Virtual Reality experience! \u00a0Demonstrations will be held September 5, 21, 22, and 26 from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.<\/p>\n
