December Update

BOOK SALES

The December “First Friday” book sale for CFOL members only will take place Friday, December 1 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the library’s meeting room.  Join your fellow CFOL members in a leisurely browse of the many books and other materials offered at very economical prices.

Regular book sales open to the general public will resume on Saturday, December 2 from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. in the library’s meeting room.  Books are also available for sale in the library’s lobby whenever the library is open.  There are no better bargains for book lovers.  All book sale items will receive a 50% discount on the weekend of December 1 and 2.  Due to the holiday schedule, the last book sale of 2017 will be Saturday, December 16.

SUNDAY MOVIES

On each Sunday afternoon the Chico branch library shows family-friendly movies at 2:00 p.m. in the library’s meeting room.  These are free and open to the public.   Your CFOL has provided the funding for a license for these showings.  Enjoy an entertaining afternoon movie alongside friends, neighbors, and other library patrons courtesy of CFOL.

CONSTRUCTION FOR “MAKER SPACE” HAS BEGUN

Preliminary construction of the much anticipated Maker Space has begun in Oroville.  At the completion of this phase, the structure will be moved to Chico for installation and finishing touches.   Your CFOL will make significant contributions to the new “Maker Space” to be built in the center of the library.  Devices such as 3-D printers, a button maker, sewing machines, typewriters, and an Ellison die-cut machine will be available for public use.  There will also be space for tutoring, book discussions, Fandom Club, computer lab and other programs.  Your CFOL will purchase materials as well as storage cabinets and work surfaces, while Butte County will construct the surrounding walls.  Talk to library staff to share your ideas for additional devices and programs.

In the meantime, come to the library for a demonstration and hands-on experience with the Chico branch’s new Virtual Reality equipment!  Demonstrations will be held on Tuesdays throughout December from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.  While the initial VR equipment was purchased with a grant, your CFOL provides additional funding for software and accessories.

And there is no need to wait for the completion of the Maker Space to receive help with graphic design projects.  Drop in to a new weekly group meeting on Tuesdays, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. for help with computer design of logos, posters, flyers, business cards, and more.  Click here for more information.  This group is free and open to the public.

ANNUAL “BUY THE BOOK” EVENT

Add the Chico branch library to your holiday gift list this year by purchasing one of the library’s choices for the “Buy theBook” event.  Books on the library’s “wish list” are displayed on the table near the library entrance.  Take your selection to the Circulation/Reference desk to complete the purchase.  The book will then be added to the library’s collection for you and other patrons to check out.
